Social Housing
low budget accomodations in Mantova's southern area
Mantova, Italy
The purpose of the course was the design of a social housing complex, through the development from its urban scale to the architectural detail.
Through a given masterplan, the building positions itself as a conclusion of a square public space. It is marked out by the presence of a higher volume, turned along the east-west axis, and a linear building facing and defining the common open space.
The project had to fulfill the different request of possible consumers, from the family to the single user. For this reason, the plan’s layout is repeated on every level and is characterised by different housing typologies: studio apartment, two-room, three room and four room apartment.
The modularity of the plan is also expressed in the facade of the building, where the different modules of the pvc panels creates a rythm that define and organise the elevations. The main focus is on the design of the technical solutions, in particular those adopted for the construction of the facade, the plane roof and the structure.
